Karl Tanzler, also known as Count Carl von Cosel, was a German-born radiology technician who became fixated on a young woman named Elena Hoyos. After treating her for tuberculosis, he became obsessed with her and attempted to bring her back to life. He stole her corpse from her burial site and preserved it with wax and perfumes, keeping it in his home for seven years until he was discovered. Tanzler was arrested but never convicted of any crime due to legal technicalities, and he eventually moved to Florida where he lived a reclusive life until his death in 1952. He was known for his bizarre and macabre fascination with Elena, and his story has become a notorious example of necrophilia and obsession.
